WEATHERFORD, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer team concluded another outstanding season Saturday, falling to top-seeded Southwestern Oklahoma State in the Great American Conference title match by a score of 2-0. It was the third straight championship appearance for OBU.
OBU came out strong putting pressure on the Bulldogs with three shots on the goal in just over a total of five minutes. Unfortunately, SWOSU stood strong denying all three. SWOSU managed to take a 1-0 lead with OBU's Emily Griffith blocking two of the first three shots.
After falling behind 2-0 early in the second half, OBU's offense attempted to rally the team. Tori Kitchel put up three shots on goal, and the Bison were awarded two corner kicks. However, despite their best efforts, SWOSU succeeded in keeping OBU out of the back of the net.
Ruth King and Kitchel fought hard for the Bison, putting up five of the seven total shots on goal. Kitchel led the team with three and King finished with two. Hannah White and Abigail Parker each got on the board with one shot on goal apiece.
King finishes as the top performer for the Bison this season. She put up a total of six goals and 16 points overall. King also finishes her career as the second leading scorer in Bison history.
