Second Half Surge Lead Men to Thrilling Draw

SHAWNEE - It had been a tough stretch for Oklahoma Baptist men's soccer over the last four contests and it looked like those woes would continue on Saturday night as the Newman Jets raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first 30 minutes of play at the OBU Soccer Field.

However, the Bison were able to put together a furious rally, scoring three goals in the second half and forcing extra time, where the two sides finished with a 3-3 draw.

Despite falling behind, OBU outshot Newman 7-5 in the first half, but a pair of goals of Ed Jabarri in the first nine minutes and a goal from Victor Lopez gave the Jets the dominant advantage. However, OBU changed that in the second half as they upped their shot advantage to 13-5. OBU had an overall 25-14 advantage in shots.

Dominic Gibson got OBU on the board first in the 51st minute off an assist from Bruno Feirrera. Peterson Costa made it a one goal game with a goal of his own in the 61st minute and the Bison turned up the heat on the Jets as they looked for an equalizer. David Estrada would fine that equalizer in the 83rd minute to even the score.

The two teams moved into extra time where OBU had a 4-1 advantage in the first 10 minutes and an overall 5-4 advantage in shots. However, neither team could find the golden goal and the match finished in a draw.

Luis Romero got seven shots off with three on target while Feierrea added six on the night. Elias Diaz earned the result in goal with a pair of saves.

OBU moves to 3-7-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the GAC. They will hit the road for Arkansas this upcoming weekend as they head to Arkadelphia on Thursday for a 3 PM match against Ouachita.
