Lady Bison Tripped Up by Westminster

SHAWNEE – (HTML Box Score) Oklahoma Baptist dropped the final contest of a five-game homestand Tuesday night, falling to Westminster 19-7 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference showdown at the OBU Lacrosse Complex.

Trailing by two goals early in the first half, the Lady Bison (2-5, 0-3 RMAC) rallied to take a 5-4 lead, but the Griffins (2-2, 1-0 RMAC) stormed back for an 11-7 halftime advantage and never trailed the rest of the way.

Senior midfielder Allison Ingrim put OBU on the board with a goal at the 26:04 mark of the first half. Breanna Wichert picked up her third assist of the season on the goal. Taylor Skomp converted a free position shot for her team-leading 11th goal of the season and Wichert scored back-to-back goals to even the score at 4-4 with 14:32 remaining in the first half. Ingrim assisted on the second Wichert goal.

Taryn Burks gave the Lady Bison their only lead of the game at 5-4 with 13:39 left in the opening frame. She scored on a feed from Lauren McCormack, who registered her 13th assist of the year to match the program record for assists in a season. McCormack equaled the 13 assists from Emily Gilbert in 2015 with nine games remaining in the regular season.

Burks tallied her second goal of the night on a free position shot at the 11:33 mark in the first half and Wichert scored for the third time with 3:14 left in the half for the final Lady Bison goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Ward finished with 10 saves for her second straight game with double-digit saves and paced the team with 11 ground balls. Ingrim had six caused turnovers and Wichert won five draw controls.

OBU will play the first of eight straight games away from home in a neutral site contest against Keiser on March 19 in Denver. The Lady Bison will play four games next week in their annual Colorado road trip over Spring Break.
