Â
SHAWNEE – Four different Lady Bison found the back of the net as Oklahoma Baptist romped past Central Christian (Kan.), 4-1, to open the 2017 campaign with back-to-back triumphs. It's the first time in program history that OBU has opened the season with a 2-0 mark.
Â
All four OBU goals came in the second half after the Lady Bison saw several golden chances hit the post in the first half.
Â
Kerregan Edwards, who scored the match-winner in a contest between the same two sides last season, opened the scoring after getting on the end of a pass by
Emmily Infante. Her shot from the top of the box beat the Central Christian goalkeeper to the left post in the 48th minute to give OBU the lead.
Â
A minute later,
Jennifer Goethe netted her first of the season by curling an effort on the left endline under the crossbar to give OBU a 2-0 advantage. Her goal would stand as the match winner.
Â
Reagan Mann put the match well out of reach after she headed home a cross from
Abigail Parker that was sent in from the left wing in the 80th minute.
Ruth King then cemented the already assured result by latching onto the end of an early cross by
Halle Hill in the 84th minute of action. The Tigers would notch a consolation goal in the dying seconds of the match.
Â
Emily Griffith picked up the win while recording one save over 90 minutes of play. The OBU defense permitted just four shots on the night.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist (2-0) returns to the pitch Saturday, Sept. 9 when they hit the road for the first time this season to face the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha at 5:30 p.m.
