Lady Bison Earn Split at SOSU

DURANT – Oklahoma Baptist took a 3-2 win after a drama-filled 11th inning Saturday to earn a split at Southeastern Oklahoma State.

OBU lost the opener 3-2.

The Lady Bison trailed 2-0 before getting on the board in the second when Kursten Bergene doubled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Miranda Garza.

OBU was down 3-1, but got one back in the fifth. Bry Flanagan doubled and eventually scored on a safety squeeze by Shelby Savage.

The Lady Bison had seven hits, including two each by Katie Reyes, Cheyenne Demaree and Flanagan.

McKenzie Jones allowed all three runs over five innings, while striking out five batters to take the loss.

The second game saw OBU fall behind 2-0 in the first inning, but Flanagan, who was a double short of the cycle in the second game, put OBU on the board with an RBI single in the second inning and tied the game with a solo home run in the fifth.

Neither team scored again until the 11th. Kursten Bergene led off with her second double of the game and with two outs, Flanagan tripled to right center for the 3-2 lead.

Leading off the bottom of the 11th, Keeshia Thompson ripped a ball deep to left but Sam Barry brought the ball back from over the fence with a leaping catch for an out.

Amanda Peterson got a strikeout with the potential tying run at second base to end the game. Peterson went the distance, fanning seven, to improve to 4-1.

OBU had a dozen hits in the game, including three by Flanagan and two each by Madison Vaughan and Bergene.

Now 21-26 on the season, the Lady Bison are scheduled to play Texas A&M-Commerce Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Shawnee before wrapping up the regular season with a four-game weekend set with Ouachita Baptist, also at Lady Bison Park.
