CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist continued its three-stop tour of Arkansas with a sweep of University of the Ozarks Wednesday, 13-3 and 7-5.
OBU had 28 hits for the doubleheader, getting 15 in the second game while leaving 10 runners stranded.
In the opener, OBU scored four runs in the first inning on an illegal pitch, a wild pitch and RBI singles by
Bailee Saye and
Bry Flanagan.
OBU added four more in the third on four errors and three hits, including an RBI single by
Jill Shipman, who later stole home.
Katie Reyes singled in a run in the fourth for a 9-0 lead.
The Eagles avoided the run-rule with a two-run fifth.
Sam Barry homered to lead off the sixth and
Shelby Savage followed later with an RBI single.
Kursten Bergene ripped a two-run singled to make it 13-2.
Ozarks got the game-prolonging run to the plate in the sixth but settled for one run.
OBU had 13 hits, including two apiece by Bergene, Flanagan, Barry, Shipman and Savage.
Haylee Zimmerman went the distance, allowing two earned runs while striking out three batters.
Ozarks scored twice in the bottom of the first to open the second game with a 2-0 lead.
OBU made it 2-1 in the second when Flanagan singled, went all the way to third on a sacrifice by Barry and scored on a ground out by
Morgan Hughes.
Madison Vaughan tied the game in the third with an RBI single. Saye gave OBU the 3-2 lead with an RBI ground out.
Hughes tacked on a two-run single in the fifth, followed by an RBI single by
Miranda Garza for a 6-2 lead.
Ozarks got a run back in the fifth but with bases loaded and one out, Saye relieved and got a strikeout and a pop up to get out of the inning.
Shipman singled in a run with two outs in the seventh for a 7-3 advantage.
Ozarks added two unearned runs in the final frame for the 7-5 score.
Hughes and Savage led OBU with three hits each in the nightcap. Barry, Garza and Vaughan had two hits each.
Amanda Peterson picked up the win with Saye pitching the final 2.2 innings to get the save.
Now 8-10, the Lady Bison venture to tougher waters Saturday and Sunday with 1 p.m. doubleheaders at No. 16 Harding.
