Â
SHAWNEE – A quick strike by
Ruth King and a pair of insurance goals from the penalty spot by
Kerregan Edwards and
Hannah White in the second half saw No. 1-seeded Oklahoma Baptist drop No. 4 East Central, 3-0, to reach the Great American Conference Tournament Championship.
Â
King scored the only goal OBU would need when fellow All-GAC First Teamer
Emmily Infante put her in on goal with a long thru ball. The sophomore forward did well to place her shot in the left corner; just one minute and 32 seconds had elapsed when the Lady Bison scored their first goal.
Â
Despite taking an additional 14 shots in the opening 45 minutes, the Lady Bison would only put an additional four on-goal, and all were saved. Oklahoma Baptist held ECU to just one shot for the half.
Â
Two penalty kicks in a five-minute span would ensure victory for the No. 1-seeded Lady Bison with a little under 25 minutes left in the semifinal. Edwards converted from the spot in the 65th minute before White coolly finished from the spot in the 70th minute.
Â
The Lady Bison claimed their program record ninth clean sheet of the year while limiting the Tigers to just three shots, two of which were saved by
Emily Griffith.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist (15-1-3, 9-0-3 GAC) is set to take on the No. 2 seed, Southwestern Oklahoma State, on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. at the OBU Soccer Complex. The winner earners an automatic bid to the Central Region Championships.
