TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist fell to 2-4-1 on the season following a 2-0 loss to Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on Monday night. It is the first time the Bison have been shutout since their second match of the season, a loss to St. Mary's.
The Bison were wasteful with the few chances they had in the first half, with both
Thiago Dos Santos and
Michael Stewart pulling shots wide of the goalmouth in the opening minutes of the match. Oklahoma Baptist's best chance came off the forehead of Stewart in the 13th minute, but the header was saved by Ryan Davis.
Jared Hill, making the start in goal for OBU, kept it clean in the first half with four saves while facing seven RiverHawks shots.
Into the first 25 minutes of the second half, the teams were still level despite the best efforts of
Vicente Castillo and Dos Santos. Unfortunately, it was the RiverHawks that found the breakthrough, netting goals in the 71st and 76th minutes to see out the match as 2-0 winners.
Hill posted nine saves in his first start of the season while facing 18 shots by NSU. Castillo led OBU with four shots, though only one was on-frame, while Stewart was second on the team with three shots, including two on-goal.
Oklahoma Baptist returns to Shawnee to take on Harding at 8 p.m. at the OBU Soccer Complex on Thursday, Sept. 22 in both team's Great American Conference opener.
