Women’s Soccer Claims First Win

Box Score (html)

SHAWNEE – Abigail Hicks opened her account for the season as Oklahoma Baptist claimed their first win of the season, 1-0, over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at the OBU Soccer Complex on Saturday night.

Oklahoma Baptist controlled much of the first half of play, but needed to find the final ball in. Make her first appearance of the season, Emmily Infante was inserted into the midfield and unlocked the Drover defense with a long thru ball that Hicks latched onto. An on-rushing Brandi Hutchison didn't faze the sophomore forward, as she deftly took a touch around the keeper and slot the ball into the net for the Lady Bison's first goal of the season.

The Lady Bison controlled the ball for much of the remainder of the match, outshooting the Drovers 13-9, including a 5-3 advantage in the second half. Oklahoma Baptist's defense clamped down in the second half, with only one of the three shots finding its way to Emma Beck, who, with five saves to her credit, picked up her first clean sheet of the season.

Ruth King had several good chances for OBU, forcing Hutchison into two saves, while Kerregan Edwards also took two shots, one of which forced the USAO goalkeeper into action.

Oklahoma Baptist returns to action on Friday, Sept. 16 in Denton, Texas, as they take on No. 25 Texas Woman's at 7 p.m. in the squad's first road test of 2016.
