DENVER – Oklahoma Baptist continued their winning ways, stringing together the fifth consecutive win by defeating Johnson & Wales 1-0 in a non-conference match Saturday night.
Â
Jared Hill scored the game winner off a feed from
Alejandro Castillo in the 83rd minute. Hill chipped in a shot over the keeper from the right side of the box for his third career goal in as many matches. It was the third assist this season for Castillo.
Â
The five-match winning streak equals the longest for the Bison since 2009. This was the first road win of the season for OBU, as they improved their season record to 7-4-1.
Â
Thomas Ackernecht registered his third shutout win of the season. It was the fourth shutout by an OBU keeper this year, meeting that mark for the first time since 2011.
Â
Ackernecht made all five of his saves before the half to preserve a 0-0 tie. Oklahoma Baptist was quiet offensively through the first 45 minutes, taking just one shot. The second half featured a more balanced attack, with each team attempting four shots.
Â
Jonathan Martinez paced all players with two shots, including one on target.
Vicente Castillo and
Thiago Dos Santos each attempted one shot in the win.
Â
The Bison tested the JWU keeper just three times all night, but it was enough to secure the second straight non-conference win of the season. OBU kicks off the second leg of the season with a road test against Ouachita on Thursday, Oct. 13. The Bison were victorious in the first meeting against the Tigers this year, winning 3-0.
