Oklahoma Baptist rallied back from two goals down, but fell 3-2 in overtime to Great American Conference opponent Ouachita Baptist Saturday afternoon at the OBU Soccer Complex.
The Tigers scored two first half goals behind Dylan Tritton and Blake Beshirs for a 2-0 advantage with under two minutes remaining before intermission.
Following a handball in the box from the Tigers in the final 13 seconds of the first half, the Bison were awarded a penalty kick.
Vicente Castillo beat the keeper to cut the deficit to one goal at the halfway point of the match.
At the end of the first half five yellow cards had been issued and a total of six cautions were handed out for the match.
Josue De Paz scored on a rebounded shot from
Ruben Basurto in 65th minute to even up the score at 2-2 and force overtime.
Five minutes into the first overtime period Ryan Trayner scored from the top of the box to seal the victory for the Tigers.
Oklahoma Baptist finished the match with 19 shots while limiting Ouachita to 11.
Castillo and
Kervy Robles paced the Bison with four shots each, and
Matthew Giudice added three shots.Â
Marcus Oliveira made three saves through 95 minutes in goal.
Oklahoma Baptist, now 5-10 on the year and 2-3 in GAC play, is locked in a three-way tie with Harding and Southern Nazarene for second place in the conference. Ouachita takes sole possession of first place with the win, improving to 4-1 in the GAC and 5-8 overall.
The Bison will travel to Hays, Kan., to take on Fort Hays State in a non-conference match on Thursday, Oct. 22, and will wrap up their season at home against Southern Nazarene next Saturday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m.
