Bison Defeat Wildcats in Double OT

Josue De Paz scored in double overtime to give Oklahoma Baptist a 1-0 victory over Johnson & Wales Saturday night at the OBU Soccer Complex.

The Bison attempted 21 shots in regulation while limiting the Wildcats to just 10, but JWU goalkeeper Jordan Collier registered 12 saves to keep OBU off the scoreboard.

Neither team scored in the first overtime period, sending the match to the final 10 minutes of play still locked in a scoreless tie.

Following a yellow card against JWU in the second overtime, the Bison received a free kick. Ruben Basurto played a ball into the box for De Paz, who headed the ball into the upper left corner of the net for the game-winning goal at the 115:08 mark.

Bison keeper Marcus Oliveira finished with four saves in 116 minutes in goal for his first shutout of the season.

OBU was active on offense the entire match, with Vicente Castillo and Ruben Basurto each taking seven shots to pace the Bison. Castillo put five shots on goal while Matthew Giudice added six shots in the winning effort.

This was the third win of the season for the Bison and the first home win since Sept. 12.

"It's a big lift. We've had a really tough time in the box in the attacking third [of the field] and finishing. It was a goal we definitely needed to pick the whole team up," said Bison head coach Anthony Yousey.

The Wildcats drop to 4-7-1 overall, while the Bison improve to 3-9 for the year.

OBU will travel to Canyon, Texas for a non-conference match with West Texas A&M on Oct. 12 before resuming Great American Conference play at home against Harding on Oct. 15.
