A member of coach Chris Jensen’s inaugural class when OBU re-started its football program in 2013 after a 72-year hiatus, Gilbert holds the Bison career record for tackles for loss (44) and sacks (23).

He was an NAIA All-American in 2013 and was also named the conference Defensive Player of the Year. He led the NAIA with 16 sacks for minus-52 yards and also finished second in the nation in total tackles for loss with 25 for minus-90 yards. He was a preseason All-American selection in 2014 by USA College Football.

Though he was an offensive tackle in high school at Southmoore, he was recruited by colleges as a defensive end. He was offered to walk on as a fullback at the University of Oklahoma but instead chose to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State for one year before transferring back closer to home to OBU to help restart the football program.

Gilbert now teaches mathematics and coaches football at Choctaw High School.
